New DO-GRIP and SELF-GRIP Tools for Parting and Grooving on Swiss-Type Automatics and CNCs
Integral-shank holders with screw-clamped DO-GRIP and SELF-GRIP inserts for parting and grooving on various Swiss-type screw machines, automatics and CNCs are now available from ISCAR. The holders feature very small head heights to avoid collision with other tools, a special requirement of Swiss-type automatics, where the tools slide in the radial direction during parting. For Swiss-type CNCs ISCAR has designed new DO-GRIP DGTR/L-..B-..D-..SH integral shank holders with short heads and minimum overhang to improve stability, rigidity and machining performance.

Both the SELF-GRIP and DO-GRIP holders use slanted clamping screws for maximum insert stability in the seat and to avoid problems in grooving and parting when the slides are moving downwards or pulling backwards. The respective inserts are available with C, J, JS and UT chipformers, approach angles of neutral, 6°, 8° or 15° and in coated grades IC308, IC328 and IC354, as well as uncoated grade IC20.

The DO-GRIP holders, with double-ended inserts, mounted on the sidewise-moving slides of a Swiss-type CNC machines, are popular on machines such as Tsugami, Traub, Star, Miyano, and Citizen.

The new holders with their inserts are an excellent, economical alternative for many solid carbide, HSS blades, brazed tools, and ground-sintered indexable carbide inserts. DO-GRIP type holders are available in 10 and 12 mm (.374 and .500") square holders, for 1 to 3 mm (.039 to .118") insert widths.

New SELF-GRIP tools with screw-clamped inserts are designed for most of the Swiss-type CNCs, such as Tornos, Traub, and Index. The SELF-GRIP holders are available in 8, 10, 12, and 16 mm (.315, .374, .500, and .630") square shanks used with GFN-R/L inserts in 1.2, 1.6, 2, and 2.4 mm (.047, .063, .079, and .094") widths.

The two new options from the GRIP lines with the existing DGAD DO-GRIP adaptors provide economical solutions for parting and grooving on all single- and multi-spindle automatics. The inserts are seated firmly in the seats, yet may be easily and quickly indexed, and are available with advanced coatings, or uncoated, for improved tool life on a wide range of workpiece materials.
